South Wales Cremations

How Direct Cremation Works
Simple, Private & Dignified

No funeral service, no mourners, no hearse. The cremation takes place privately and we return the ashes to you, across Newport, Usk and South Wales.

Gentle, private direct cremation care

How it works

Four simple steps, from your first call to the return of the ashes. Our family has cared for families in Newport since 1860, and we keep you informed at every stage.

1

Get in touch

Call us on 01633 266 848, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We will listen and explain exactly what happens next.

2

We collect your loved one

We bring your loved one into our care at our Newport funeral home on Cardiff Road, with regular updates for you throughout.

3

Private cremation

The cremation takes place at a local crematorium, such as Gwent or Langstone Vale, without a service or mourners. We complete all the paperwork.

4

Ashes returned

We collect the ashes from the crematorium and keep them safely at our funeral home until you are ready. Collect them from us, or we can bring them to you.

Guidance for the first days

What to do when someone dies

Losing someone close to you can feel overwhelming. Alongside grief and shock, there are practical steps that need to be taken in the first few days. If the death was at home or in a nursing home, call their doctor first, then us. If it was in hospital, the hospital will guide you before you call us. If it was unexpected, call the police, who will inform the coroner.

Our guide explains what to do, who to contact, and how direct cremation works, so you can focus on what matters most.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

Registering a death in South Wales

The death must be registered in the district where the person died, not necessarily where they lived, within five days of confirmation by the medical examiner, unless the coroner is involved. We recommend booking an appointment with the registrar, and we will tell you exactly what to bring.

The next of kin, a close family member or the executor registers the death at the local register office
